Here's What I Thought of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End AnimeNews
This season is filled with good anime. But there’s anime that recently gained popularity, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Surprisingly, Frieren surpassed the long-standing Fullmetal Alchemist at the first position of Top Anime in MyAnimeList.
With many positive reviews, I decided to watch a few episodes. The anime revolves around Frieren, an elf mage embarking on a new adventure after a decade-long quest to defeat the Demon King with the members of the hero’s party. Her adventure and battle create unforgettable and precious memories.
As an elf, Frieren lives longer than her friends like Himmel and the priest Heiter. They are gone, remaining Frieren and dwarf warrior Eisen who are still alive. Over the passing years, Frieren gradually realizes how her days with the hero’s party truly impacted her in many ways. In her new journey with Fern and Stark, she vows to better understand humans and create real personal connections.
Frieren stands out as a prominent fantasy anime. The plot is slow but it didn’t make you bored. The anime’s art is really beautiful. Madhouse, the studio behind it, has done an excellent job. Focusing on Frieren’s character, the anime digs into the life of an elf, especially after witnessing the gradual loss of her friends. I must admit, two episodes made me teary.
Frieren remainds me of J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe. The members of the hero’s party are the same race as the trio in The Lord of the Rings, Aragorn (human), Legolas (elf), and Gimli (dwarf).
There are many things we can learn from this anime. The most significant one is never to miss the present moment with the people you love. Romanticize everything with them, as you might regret not cherishing the time you have until it’s too late.
However, Frieren may not fit for those seeking a fast-paced anime with many fight scenes or conflicts. If you are in search of a heart-warming anime, this might be the one for you. My personal rating: 5/5. Watch Frieren: Beyond Journey's End here.
